(FEDERAL FUNDING) GAO Uncovers Major Problems With Grants.gov
Investigators from the Government Accountability Office have uncovered significant systemic problems with Grants.gov, the central grant identification and application portal for federal grant programs. Specifically, GAO says the various federal agencies responsible for Grants.gov lack a clear understanding of the critical roles and responsibilities they play in Web portal's operation. Among other things, the GAO's findings mean that aging-related organizations and other entities using Grants.gov as a funding information resource may be getting short-changed by the portal. The hospitalization rate of patients admitted for treatment of hip, pelvis and other fractures associated with osteoporosis increased by 55% between 1995 and 2006, according to the latest data reported by the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality.
